Soylent Green – Sol goes home

For promotional and information purposes. This scene of the film is notable because: a) Heston is really crying in this scene because he knows that Robinson has just months to live (he has cancer). b) This was the last film starring Edward G. Robinson, and his character dies in it as well. Let us hope that he passed away as peacefully as Sol Roth. A stark warning about overpopulation and ecological destruction from 1972.

    You people are such fools…overpopulation is a globalist psychological warfare conspiracy aimed to prepare the masses of the world into a final phase of the new world order…which will be a great global depopulation. But however you slice it up…it all comes down to one thing….CLASS WARFARE…keep the rich and powerful, rich and powerful, and keep the poor and dependent. Poor and dependent. We are ruled by those who told us great lie…and these lies are catching up to them, fast. :)

  • Madcr0ws:

    @ChrisJMoor I don’t think USA let alone the UN will last long enough to aide the Saudis. North amerika is already showing great sign of decay and stress in terms of geoplolitical standing. A little long and the UN building will end up like the WTC. :D

  • hitssquad:

    @ChrisJMoor “cbsnews. com/stories/2009/10/08/ap/asia/main5370689. shtml”

    The title and subtitle say it all:

    “Saudis Ask For Aid If World Cuts Dependence On Oil

    Saudi Arabia Says It Will Need Aid If World Cuts Oil Dependence To Stop Climate Change”

    What would that have to do with Peak Oil? The article is about a potential loss of Saudi revenues from a global *voluntary* abandoning of oil to cut carbon emissions — not from Peak Oil.

    Your source doesn’t support your Peak-Oil claim.

  • hitssquad:

    @ChrisJMoor “Saudi Arabia has actually asked the UN for foreign aid in the event of serious loss of revenues from oil exports”

    Source?

  • walter0bz:

    @ChrisJMoor – the overpopulation scenerio is completely feasible in light of peak-oil.
    Oil has temporarily inflated carrying capacity.
    global warming is almost a moot point..
    I really hate it when I grow up and dystopian films get proved right…

  • VictorLepanto:

    @ChrisJMoor: How is this movie realistic. the only real part about is the promotion of euthanasia. We are about in the period time this supposedly takes place. Actually a bit later really. Our populations are beginning to collapse. We are promoting euthanasia, but that has more to do w/ a kind of world weary contempt for life today. Also, in Europe, euthanasia is being driven by a socialized medicine cost cutting spirit.

  • GooGobbler113:

    A truly great movie with some truly great acting. ITS PEOPLE!!!!!!!

  • randompolarity:

    l have this on my film shelf at home.
    the thought of this film ever happening is frightening.
    the euthanasia though l feel is a good idea.
    what better way to go than watching what u loved best, nature,
    which is being destroyed as we read….

  • CARDMAN365:

    That is how i would like to die.

  • matrox:

    @zeverssl
    You are just another person in denial about death and dying. Lets see how ignorant you think the statement is when you are laid up in a hospital bed like a vegetable on life support for twenty years time when all you could hope to do is breath in and out. Then lets talk about insensitivity. We can also talk about ignorance.

  • zeverssl:

    @ChrisJMoor Very astute. Actually Russia is silently playing both sides. The chance of Istral attacking Iran and disprupting supplies as well as the region is great. If that happens they (Russia will be the main supplier) will be positioned. Notice main world players (Russia, China) are preparing while the US does not. Do we honestly think we are that stupid?

  • zeverssl:

    @onebaud
    You have the option. Do not blame republicans for your lack of courage. Sorry to sound so cruel but life is precious and to be appreciated. Not thrown away because someone else says so.

  • zeverssl:

    @agirlforbryn
    Well said>>>>>>>>

  • zeverssl:

    @matrox The ignorance and insensitivity of this statement is amazing.

  • bruckner0001:

    This is also notable because Heston’s character was born too late to ever know the Earth as it appears in the “film” that Robinson is watching as he dies in this scene. Earth’s ecology was destroyed completely before Heston’s character was born. Sol, however, is old enough to remember Earth the way it once was.

  • bruckner0001:

    @tigeroak I couldn’t agree with you more. this scene made a big impression on me when I saw it in the theater all those years ago. Positively brilliant and so very moving.

  • tigeroak:

    One of the most “moving” scenes in cinematic history. It really makes you realize how beautiful life around us is. I hope we don’t throw it all away and end up like these people. It looks like BP is heading us in the wrong direction. Boycott BP!!

  • ChrisJMoor:

    …not that I think overpopulation of this sort could happen, but overuse of resources leading to a global recession is possible. Indeed, it seems like the oil producing nations are planning for it already (Saudi Arabia has actually asked the UN for foreign aid in the event of serious loss of revenues from oil exports). Also, Russia is involved in similar wrangling over its gas exports to Europe.

  • ChrisJMoor:

    @tlibber

    Its funny, but I also point this out every time I watch the movie and (usually) it makes me cry (although being at the end of a six pack by the time I am enforcing it on someone via my DVD collection probably accounts for that;) ).

    Call it personal bias but of the three well known dystopic films that Heston made, I think this is the best because although it is a bit amateurish at times, its setting is probably the most relevant for the world as it stands now.

  • mentireta:

    Gracias! por darme los datos de la música del momento de Sol en el hogar.

  • tlibber:

    @Dooby1986 Moore is a jackass opportunist. Heston marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. “before” it was fashionable. I’m with you. Heston is 10 times the man that that fat prick Moore will ever be.

  • tlibber:

    @ChrisJMoor. Yep. You got ‘em all right. I agree with you. An outstanding scene. Even more moving when you know that Edward G.Robinson (Sol) was dying of cancer in real life and his friend Charlton Heston (Thorn) knew it. Those tears are real. He wasn’t acting. Swear to God.

  • zuckermauseli:

    Ich hab diesen Film als Kind gesehen und ihn niemals wieder vergessen können, wie so manche von meiner Generation. Der Film ist Prophetie!
